The contents of this web site gives an overview of just some of the Funeral Director’s services we offer.
It was in 1927 that Augustus and his wife Emma Daisy set up business on the Hagley Road West in Quinton, Birmingham as Funeral Directors and also provided a taxi service and Rolls-Royce cars for weddings.
In 1937 it was proposed to widen the Hagley Road West so the Taylors had to move to an alternative site. They chose the present site on a then new dual carriageway where they had built a new purpose built Funeral Parlour with Chapels of Rest, garage and also a family home.
However this change in location did not turn out as planned. The preparations for World War 11 intervened and the proposed roadwork was not carried out meaning the business premises had located from a prominent main road position to a cul de sac.
Philip, supported by his wife Bess and Augustus’ youngest child, started to take the lead in the family company in the 1940’s and despite the problem of location such was the excellent reputation of the Taylor family the business continued to grow. Funerals from all areas of Birmingham and outside, private hire taxis for proud parents taking their baby to the christening service or happy holiday makers making their way to sea side resorts or the railway station and of course, weddings with Rolls-Royce motor cars.
In the mid 1960’s Susan, Nicholas and Andrew joined their father and it is they who own and run the company today.
The dual carriageway was finally opened 40 years after it was built. The private hire service ceased in 1968 but the provision of Rolls-Royce wedding cars continues sometimes with the grand daughter of a bride taken to her wedding ceremony by Augustus and whose mother was driven to her ceremony by Philip.
A.B.Taylor Funeral Services is not the biggest funeral company, not the most expensive nor the cheapest but seeks to provide a service that is appropriate for you and the deceased.
